It’s important to be healthy in mind, body, and spirit to operate at your best every day. One of the ways in which you can ensure you’re balanced is to have your chakras aligned. The most popular way of doing so is by using chakra stones. People have used crystals and stones for healing and energy cleansing for thousands of years because of the element’s spiritual powers. Stones are believed to hold vibrational energy that can assist in all sorts of healing treatments. Your chakras, which represent different parts of your body and spirit are constantly changing for better and worse, depending on your circumstances. You suffer when your chakras are not balanced, and you thrive when they are aligned. Learning how to use chakra stones to enhance the health of your chakras is a great spiritual practice and will set you right so you can live your best life.

What are Chakras?

The term “chakra” is a Sanskrit word that means “wheel or disk.” These “wheels” of energy are in various areas of your body and can positively or negatively affect your health. The chakras are considered the point where consciousness meets matter. You have 7 chakras that start at the base of the spine and go up to the crown of your head. Each one is associated with a part of your body, an emotional state, and a color.

Root Chakra

The Root Chakra is in the tailbone area at the base of the spine. It controls your physical body and identity, your relationship to money, food, grounding, and your sense of stability. When your root chakra is in alignment, you feel safe and secure, eat healthy and exercise, and are financially stable. Red is associated with the root chakra.

Sacral Chakra

The Sacral Chakra is located above the pubic bone, just below your belly button. It’s the powerhouse of sexual pleasure, sexuality, creativity, and your overall sense of well-being. When the sacral chakra is balanced, you feel emotionally stable, have a healthy sex life, and have a positive sense of self-worth. Orange is paired with the sacral chakra.

Solar Plexus Chakra

The Solar Plexus Chakra is in the abdomen and stomach area. This is your personal power center. It controls your self-esteem, confidence level, and self-love. When your solar plexus chakra is aligned, you experience full self-acceptance and are a calm and confident person. Yellow is considered the color of the solar plexus chakra.

Heart Chakra

The Heart Chakra, or “Heart Center” is located in the center of the chest near the heart. It controls joy, compassion, inner peace, and your ability to connect and love others. If your heart chakra is healthy, you can experience true happiness, empathize with others, emote freely, and love unconditionally. The color green is associated with the heart chakra.

Throat Chakra

The Throat Chakra is in your neck, specifically over your throat. It’s associated with your ability to communicate, speak your truth, and self-expression. When in alignment, you feel comfortable and confident expressing yourself, being impeccable with your word, and speaking and listening to others with genuine interest and compassion. Light blue/ Turquoise is the color of the throat chakra.

Third Eye Chakra

The Third Eye Chakra, or “Brow Chakra,” is located on your forehead between your eyes. It controls imagination, intuition, and wisdom. A clear third eye allows you to engage in big-picture thinking, not give in to self-doubt, and be open to things that cannot be physically seen. Indigo is the color associated with the third eye chakra.

Crown Chakra

The Crown Chakra is on the very top, or crown, of your head. This is the chakra of spirituality, divine consciousness, your life’s purpose, awareness, and intelligence. A balanced crown chakra brings you enlightenment, fulfillment of your life’s mission, inner and outer beauty, and pure bliss. Light Violet and White are the colors that identify the crown chakra.

Why You Should Use Chakra Stones

Healing your chakras and ensuring you have a well-balanced internal energy system are incredibly important. Misalignment of any chakra can cause detrimental effects and decrease the quality of your life.

An unhealthy root chakra will cause you to feel lethargic, insecure, unmotivated, directionless, and dissatisfied with your body. You can also suffer from autoimmune disorders, lower back and leg pain, arthritis, and digestive issues.

A sacral chakra that is not stable you feel confused, dependent on others, depressed, and easily frustrated. It can physically manifest as swelling, hormone imbalances, urinary tract infections, and impotency.

If your solar plexus chakra is unbalanced you are fearful, lack self-confidence, become manipulative and controlling, and are unable to express your emotions. Ulcers, heartburn, indigestion, and eating disorders can plague you.

A misaligned heart chakra makes you vulnerable to people who will take advantage of you. You end up putting people first to your own detriment. Feelings of jealousy, bitterness, and detachment can take over. You can end up feeling lonely, and isolated, and struggle to maintain healthy relationships. It can physically manifest as asthma, weight gain, heart problems, blood pressure irregularities, and lumps in your breasts.

A weak throat chakra can prevent you from communicating effectively and uncomfortable with expressing your truth. You could even start dominating conversations, gossiping more frequently, or verbally assaulting someone. Physically it can manifest as teeth and gum disease, stuttering, a stiff jaw and neck, sore throat, or completely lose your voice.

If your third eye chakra is blocked you will experience a foggy brain, forgetfulness, lack of concentration, and an inability to connect with your intuition. This shows up in the body as migraines, tension headaches, poor hearing, and eyesight problems.

An unbalanced crown chakra can result in stubbornness, high stress levels, and skeptical thinking. You may feel uninspired, and directionless, and can’t shake the feeling that your life is meaningless. Cognitive decline, dementia, and issues with your nervous system can result from a blocked crown chakra.

Now that you know how serious blocked chakras can be, it’s important to know how to cleanse and balance them so you can increase the quality of your life. Using chakra stones is the most effective way to create a full chakra realignment. Stones and crystals have the power to release negative energy and replace it with purified, positive vibrations.

How to Use Chakra Stones

There are many ways you can use chakra stones to align your chakras. Many people find it easy to wear their stones as jewelry or carry them in their pockets or purse. It’s also common to use chakra stones as home décor or on an office desk to have the positive energy of the stones present in your space. If you want to get a bit more intimate with your stones, you can place them under your pillow while you sleep or place them in your bathwater while you soak in the tub. These are all easy and convenient ways to enjoy the healing benefits of chakra stones.

If you have many unbalanced chakras and need a more in-depth chakra stone experience then try using them in your meditations, prayer times, self-care rituals, and healing sessions. First, it’s important to identify which of your chakras needs healing. It can be one or more than one. It should also be noted that our chakra energies are ever changing so this week your throat chakra may need to be balanced, but next week your heart chakra may need more TLC. It’s totally normal.

If you simply want to meditate with the stones, hold them in your hands while sitting or lay down to meditate and visualize the stones removing negative energy from the chosen area of your body and replacing it with positive energy. It helps to visualize the specific color associated with that chakra. During your practice, you may feel vibrations, tingling, or subtle temperature changes. This means it’s working.

The most popular chakra stone practice is to lay down on your back or stomach and place multiple chakra stones in a linear formation along your body. You place the stones onto the corresponding chakras and leave them there while you meditate. For example, place the third eye stone on your forehead, the heart chakra stones on your chest, the solar plexus stone on your stomach, etc. If you prefer to lay on your stomach, the stones can be placed along your spine while you’re in your meditative state.

It’s up to how long you want to leave the stones on your body. Some people like to do quick chakra stone meditations by themselves that only last 5-10 minutes while others seek out hour-long sessions with spiritual healing professionals. It’s a personal choice. If you’re working with your stones alone and not sure how long you should leave them there, listen to your body. If a stone feels uncomfortable, remove it. If a stone rolls off by itself, it’s completed its job.
